The 2nd contest at NewDoom, and I am at it, even if I was the last at the first contest (Circular Area). This level is for DeathMatch 2.0 and from 2 players (I recommend 3) up to I think 5 players. Some sort of base-style levels with gloomy look. (--> I used the GLOOM textures, credit, credit.) The name "Hexagon Base" comes from the shape. Look at the automap! - then look at The Square Base, too, heh!
Update @ July 18 2002: I am still waiting for the contest results... it has now been nearly a year! (WAD popped up in Newstuff on July 27 2001)
Update @ April 01 2003: still waitin'...
Update @ Mid 2003: They (or, Romero) finally checked out the WADs, and well I made it to some place. Newdoom link here

Just one deathmatch map for Doom 2. An interesting hexagonal map with some floor over floor effects. A room in the middle with multiple overlapping ramps, and a slime [lava] pit. There are a few textures replacements as well. Requires Doom Legacy.

Note from jengelh: This was an update and 3dArchives did not mind putting it in newstuff. <-- was not intended, but anyway, another review.

I like the basic design. It is a big circular area with extra floors with room to move around and hunt your enemies down. And I like how it does not follow the classic example of DM wads with the bright lighting, and instead chooses a more dark atmosphere for the inside. Unfortunately, it is a little too dark for an area that size. Vision already is obstructed by the room-over-room effect, and trying to shoot at someone directly above or below you is hard enough without it being too dark to see them. Darkness can work in a DM wad, but not here.

It does have some potential for fun, however, so if you really want to up your legacy DM collection, maybe look this one up.
